The battle of Ashes begins.............

There are few cricketing rivalries but to an extent no one can match Australia and England rivalry. When it comes to Ashes this rivalry takes crescendo and is one of the most keenly fought contest. Now you might wonder from where does they get the name ASHES for the test series played between AUSTRALIA and ENGLAND.... Well this all started in 1882 and the series was named after a satirical obituary published in a British newspaper, The Sporting Times after a match in Oval where the Australian team defeated The then mighty England team for the first time. The obituary stated that England cricket has died and the body will be cremated and the ashes taken to Australia. The English Media dubbed the next England tour of Australia as the QUEST TO REGAIN ASHES...

During that tour a small terracotta urn was presented to the England Team by a group of Melbourne Women. The contents of the urn were reputed as the ashes of cricketing equipment Bail. It was presented to the England captain Ivo Bligh.

The urn erroneously is considered to be the trophy of the Ashes but it has never been so, In fact Ivo Bligh always considered it to be a personal gift. The replica of this urn is said to be used as a trophy which is taken by the victorious team
